The NAACP of Miami-Dade is looking to have the Confederate flag banned from all of the city's events, including NASCAR. The NAACP is looking to partner with NASCAR in helping them with the ban, and if NASCAR refuses, a boycott and protest will be planned for the association's November events in Miami suburb Homestead, Florida.
"We intend to notify NASCAR about the troubling racial discord we have here in Homestead, and we would like their support," said Rosemary Fuller, a member of the Miami-Dade NAACP, according to the South Florida Times.
Fuller chaired an advisory board that the city council disbanded after board members challenged the Confederate Flag. ...
"Right now, we are still in the planning stages but if NASCAR decides to come here under these conditions, we will meet them at the racetrack."
The drama in Miami started last year when the Sons of Confederate Veterans were invited by The Military Affairs Committee of the Greater Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce to participate in a city-funded parade. The NAACP believes taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for events where an offensive symbol is accepted.
They have yet to hear back from NASCAR regarding the matter, but the association will most likely comply since they have removed the flag at other events and want more diversity in their audience.

Has anyone told the Communists at the NAACP that we live in a free country? The relevance of the NAACP definitely comes into question when they waste time and resources chasing after something as irrelavent as the Confedarate flag. Some people find it more offensive to see the Mexican flag flying over schools and public facilities in California and Arizona. You don't have to like it, but there is no Constitutional law that declares the confederate flag or any other flag illegal. If this is on the top of their priority list, It's time for the NAACP to pack it's bags, get on their high horse, and ride into the sunset. Black society will be better off when these 1960's civil rights dinosaurs die off; and are replaced by leaders who live in the 21st century. They are an embarrassment, and a self indulging political group that serves NO real purpose to the Black community!!!!

you have to be kidding me, it is 2009 and you all want to bring up a flag issue, i am a united states marine with over 22 yrs in the marines, i have a question, do you have a flag hanging from a pole in your yard,and is it the united states flag( i do) no one cares about the rebel flag except folks wanting to start trouble over nothing, get a life there , so do not go to nascar, it makes more room for folks who like it any ways

Get it right, lady ... perhaps you didn't get the memo about this being the UNITED States of America, not split, separate states filled with racial biases. It's all fine and good, isn't it, as long as you think you can do whatever you like under the auspices of being "free?!" Guess again. The flag and MOST of the people in this country still stand for something, and it is NOT the kind of utter nonsense you are talking about.

THE REBEL FLAG HAS NO BEARING ON NASCAR AND OR ITS BELIEFS AS A SPORT. IT IS A SPORT AND THEY CAN NOT BE RESPONIBLE FOR THE PAST HISTORY OF THE USA. I agree with you; Anyone who does a second grade level amount of research can find harde proof of the confederate flag being intended no different than "ol glory", people have flown "ol glory" since before the civil war, with the wrong views and intentions, and the stars and bars are no more racist than the stars and stripes. The only real racists are the naacp, aclu, panzy pacifists, politically correct yuppies, and anyone in the world who disrespects others based solely on their ethnicity. As well as racism is not just degrading toward blacks. There are as many racist blacks and others, as ever were or will be whites. racism is the disrepect of an ethnicity, no matter to or from who

While I may not agree with some of the views expressed by the people displaying the confederate flag...THIS IS AMERICA!! and we have aright to expess our views . After all if we didnt have the right to express opposing points of view the NAACP wouldn't be here...or congress or the senate!! it would be a dictatorship. A great American once said "I may not agree with what you are saying ...but i will fight to the death for your right to say it" Poeple ...we have bigger problems in this country to woory about. All that being said it's still the greatest country in the world to live in because of the freedoms we have and the people who have fought and died to protect those freedoms!!
