Indiana police were prepared to throw the book at what they thought was a drunk driver who had led them on a 15-mile high-speed chase down a transcontinental highway. Instead, after a 20-minute pursuit, officers nabbed a 9-year-old who had taken his parent's car to visit a friend.
The young boy had gotten into an argument with his parents on Saturday evening, Aug. 29, and took the vehicle in retaliation while they were sleeping. He also admitted to swiping his mother's cell phone and $1 from her purse. When highway police received a call around 11:30 p.m. about a swerving vehicle on U.S. 40, they immediately spotted the car, and then proceeded to give chase.
The child hit speeds of 70 to 80 miles per hour at times, occasionally swerving side to side and wandering into oncoming traffic twice. The 9-year-old also crossed over the median twice, nearly slamming into a police car.
The frenzied car chase finally came to an end when officers used stop sticks, which flattened the vehicle's tires, causing it to swerve into a ditch. Police found the boy cowering on the floorboard in the back seat.
Police charged the minor with fleeing from law enforcement. The car has been impounded, and the child will have to meet with a probation officer and child protective services next week. Several police agencies were brought into the case, and they all agree that it was a blessing no one got hurt or even killed.

Don't leave the keys to anything important around the kids. They think that driving is so easy (I thought about driving when I was 10). He needs a little scare in juvy but nothing harsh. He really need his butt whopped by mom and dad!

You are correct, he severely need a butt whipping ... Then dad, or mom can hope to be bailed out of jail by the holier-than-thou do-gooders who will report the CHILD ABUSE. In today's world, even scolding a child can get a parent into hot water. Things, AND children are out of control.

That, while handy in legit situations such as this, would infringe on our rights, and most definately be abused by law enforcement before long. And, if not used wisely, couldn't it cause deadly crashes, when all that was needed is a speeding ticket?

Hey Bob, I think this is a terrible idea. With the new socialist state that our govt. is slowly ramming down our throat, all we need is for the police to be able to stop us on a whim.

"Borrowed" dad's car when I was about 9-10. Drove to the store, and parked in the street where it would be easy for me to get out. Wouldn't have to back up. Came out of the store, and there was a crowd around the car. Seems another driver hadn't set the parking brake and their car rolled into dad's, causing a small dent in the right front door. I just kind of disappeared until the cops and everybody left, then real quick jumped in the car and drove home, hoping dad wouldn't see the dent. It wasn't much, but the car was always parked in the street, and when you opened the front door of our house it was right THERE! Of course he saw it. Didn't say anything, so I kept mum. We sat down to supper that night, and he mentioned that he'd had a call at work from the police. Seems his car was involved in a minor accident at the local grocery store. "You wouldn't know anything about that, whould you, son?" The end!

Hope he whipped your ass beyond belief! Probably did! You still remember the story. My pops would send you to the room. You would not get to eat dinner. He would come in four to five hours later sat and talked with you and then walk out the room. He would reopen the door and say, "Oh, I forgot! Get ready!" Get ready meant you turn on your stomach and stick your ass in the air. Two whacks hard! He would leave and say, "You better think next time!"

That’s just ridiculous that he's been "charged", He won't comprehend nor understand this punishment and its only going to serve as a huge stumbling block for him when he gets older. A swift slap on the behind, ground him for 4 weeks and take away TV, that's all he needs
