We first reported a couple of days ago that California's first lady Maria Shriver was busted, yet again, on her cell phone, yapping while driving. Here's the 411 on what has transpired, since Shriver got caught red-handed breaking her hubby Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's anti-talking-on-the-celly-while-driving-in-California laws.

Shriver issued an "I'm sorry" statement yesterday, and had this to say:

I will be donating my favorite old cell phone to my Women's Conference partner Verizon through their HopeLine program that helps domestic violence shelters. I invite anyone else who wants to recycle their old phone to join me. That's my version of 'swift action' with a higher purpose."

Ironically, Shriver's cell phone situation happened on the heels of AAA Northern California's "Heads Up Driving Week," where drivers would give up distractions for a week and focus only on the road. AAA came up with the Heads Up campaign, from October 5 to 11, out of a concern about the lack of safety practices by motorists every day, which results in 8,000 daily crashes. Far too many folks multitask while driving; as a matter of fact, two-thirds of drivers report talking on their cells when they are behind the wheel, so Shriver's distracted driving behavior was far from exemplary.

Wonder if the First Lady will consider using a hands-free device in the future...some might argue that, that is STILL a distraction. ... And the plot thickens, stay tuned.
