Picture it. You're fast asleep, when suddenly, your car alarm goes off in the middle of the night. You're awakened by all of the commotion and decide to cautiously peer out of your window. You see a light inside your vehicle and someone rummaging around inside. Instinctively, you dial 911 for help. When police arrive, they are puzzled at first as to who or what is in the vehicle, but when they open the car door, all jaws drop. It's a big black bear!

The bear decided to make himself at home in the vehicle of a Teller County, Colo., couple's car over the weekend. When the angst-ridden pair called police, they reported a possible car theft in progress. Apparently, the bear had managed to push the car door's handle and get inside the vehicle. The door must have closed behind him. The bear thrashed around inside the car and apparently hit the light switch on and set off the alarm.

Authorities speculate that the bear might have been attracted to the smell of food in the vehicle. As bears prepare for hibernation, they have been known to break into cars and houses in search of food.

As soon as the police opened the car door, the bear scampered out into the darkness.

Talk about a thief in the night.
