We reported a story about a motorized La-Z-Boy Recliner that was driven by its more-than-tipsy creator, Proctor, Minn., resident Dennis Anderson, 62, as he tried to get home but found himself crashing in to a parked car. Anderson, who admitted to police that he'd consumed nine beers at a local bar before attempting to drive home in his chair, was fined and will serve a jail sentence for his DUI conviction. The story, though, does not end there. When Anderson was arrested, he lost his precious whip after police seized it. According to reports, Proctor police have put the chair up for auction on eBay, with the proceeds going to the police, state and the prosecuting attorney.
If you purchase the chair and think you'll wind up cruising city streets with the hopes of amazing all onlookers, you've got another thing coming. The Proctor Chief of Police Walter Wobig cautions, the recliner is not "street legal." So he suggests that buyers stick to their living rooms or, at most, a parade.
At press timer, the chair had fetched nearly $39,000. In the meantime, Anderson's family is trying to raise some money on the popular auction Web site as well. They're offering an 8x10 photo of Anderson riding his creation to help with fines and legal fees. Although that is not even close to the kind of money that the chair is raising, at last peek, there were a total of $255 in takers who actually want Anderson's photo.
Bidding ends Nov. 3.

Hooray for ingenuity. I love a creative mind, creative minds usually do get themselves into trouble, but where would this world be without them?
